Capturing Leadership & Team Spirit: Headshots and Group Photos in Tampa

As a photographer, one of the most rewarding aspects of my work is capturing moments that reflect both professionalism and personality. Recently, I had the privilege of photographing the management team of Wilson Funeral Home at my Hyde Park photography studio and then taking a dynamic group photo of their entire 22-member staff on the iconic courthouse steps in downtown Tampa. The experience was a great combination of studio precision and the vibrancy of outdoor photography.

Assignment Challenges

Studio Session: Polishing Professionalism with Headshots

My first task was to capture crisp, professional headshots of the management team. Headshots are essential for showcasing the leadership behind any company. The goal was to convey authority, approachability, and the unique character of each individual.

In my Hyde Park studio, we had access to controlled lighting and a clean, neutral background, which allowed each leader to stand out without distractions. I made sure to use a combination of softbox lighting and natural light streaming through the studio windows to create a flattering look. The carefully chosen background was a light gray tone, ensuring the subjects remained the focal point of the shot while complementing their professional attire.

I focused on capturing natural expressions, whether it was a warm smile or a more serious, contemplative look, depending on each person’s role and personality. Having worked with many professionals over the years, I always make sure to engage with each individual to ensure they feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. After all, a great headshot is not just about the technical aspects—it's about showing the real person behind the title.

A Step Back in Time: Group Photo at the Courthouse

Later that day, we moved outdoors to photograph the entire team. With a group of 22 staff members, I wanted to create an image that was not only cohesive but also memorable. The Old Courthouse steps in downtown Tampa were the perfect location. The grand architecture, with its classic columns and intricate details, served as a striking backdrop for this vibrant team. The courthouse’s historic charm combined with the modern energy of the staff members created a balanced and powerful image.

Organizing a group of 22 people can be challenging, but with a bit of coordination, we made it work. I positioned individuals strategically to ensure everyone had their moment in the spotlight while keeping the composition dynamic and balanced. It’s always important to make sure no one feels lost in the crowd, so I paid attention to spacing and alignment. Additionally, I used a wide-angle lens to capture the grandeur of the location and the team in a way that felt both impactful and cohesive.

The energy on the courthouse steps was incredible. As the team laughed and joked while getting into position, it was clear to me that the camaraderie between them was a central part of their company culture. I worked to reflect that positive energy in the photo, aiming for a candid, yet polished look.

The Result: Timeless & Impactful Imagery

Both the headshots and the group photo served as a powerful representation of the company’s leadership and teamwork. The headshots highlight the professionalism and dedication of the management team, while the group shot captures the unity and spirit of the entire staff. Each image plays a part in telling the story of who they are—leaders in their industry, working together towards a common goal.

Photography is about more than just taking pictures; it's about capturing moments that tell a story. Whether it’s the intimate setting of a studio or the grandeur of an iconic location like the Old Courthouse, the photos we create together leave a lasting impression.

As a photographer, I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work with this wonderful team in both settings. The combination of studio precision and the bold, historical backdrop of downtown Tampa created images that will serve this company for years to come, helping them present a professional image both online and in print.
